About Emina

I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina and I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Bioengineering from the International University of Sarajevo. Following my undergraduate studies, I pursued an International Master's in Innovative Medicine (IMIM) through a collaborative program between Groningen University in the Netherlands and Uppsala University in Sweden. For my Master's thesis, I conducted research at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

My PhD work centers on the advancement of gene-independent treatments for retinitis pigmentosa. Precisely, my project revolves around the concept of reprogramming rods cells to prevent their degeneration, while also initiating the activation of neuroprotective factors to sustain the viability of the surviving cells.

During the breaks from my PhD, you can find me juggling between the wisdom of books, the trill of sports, relaxation with friends or the art of doing nothing.
